Letter from Ian R Macdonnell, High Council Officer, Clan Seanchaidh (Historian and Archivist), Australia 30/3/2025
David Macdonald of Castle Camus
High Commissioner
Clan Donald USA
Dear David,
I wholeheartedly support your fully justified reaction, strong stance and recommendation.
NB: Objectives and Activities (1). “The primary objectives of the Trust are: • The conservation, protection and promotion of Clan Donald, its traditions, history, lands and property including the built, cultural and natural assets and habitat in its ownership on the Isle of Skye for the purpose of fostering Clan Donald sentiment and interest, offering both physical and intellectual access to the general public and Clansmen globally.’
If the "estate lands" are sold, the financial paradigm changes dramatically for viability of the “Clan Donld Centre”. This ust be considered independently.
Decision making authority does not inherently preclude consultation.
‘Secretive decisions’ often breed suspicion, anxiety, and a lack of trust, particularly when those decisions impact others without transparency or open communication.
Attached (my personal media): I have been to a few solemn, dedications at the Clan Donald Centre to honour and salute large benefactors who would now be rolling in their graves.
Their memorials (and some cases ashes) are enshrined in buildings in the “Spiritual Centre of Clan Donald”, where they placed their TRUST to remain in perpetuity……
2007: “is i Alba nan Gall 's nan Gàidheal is gaire, is blaths, is beatha dhomh”…. “Scotland of the Gaels and the Highlands is closest, dearest, and life to me”.
