Kingsburgh House sale - April 2025
Kingsburgh House, Snizort, Isle of Skye, was gifted to the CDLT over two years’ ago. The property is famed for its association with Flora Macdonald, Bonnie Prince Charlie, and the Jacobite Rebellion. The site of Kingsburgh House was home to Flora and her husband, Macdonald of Kingsburgh, head of the local cadet branch under Clan Chief Macdonald of Sleat. It was to Kingsburgh that she and the fugitive Bonnie Prince Charlie escaped after evading capture from the armed Redcoat Government soldiers in 1746. It has now been sold, but this was not revealed by the Trustees. The Trustees stated that one significant, financial viability problem that led to the decision to sell the Trust lands was that a main beneficiary had "withdrawn", but they failed to disclose the obvious corollary that a new, substantial beneficiary had donated. If this new beneficiary is an example, it cannot be ruled out that won't be others.
